Measuring Outcomes

TCHFH is in the process of measuring the impact we are having on families.

We have made up a simple one page survey that asks families if their experience with Habitat has made their home situation more stable, healthier, safer or more affordable.

We are taking these surveys 4-6 months after their experience with A Brush with Kindness, homebuilding or our Mortgage Foreclosure prevention programs to get a snapshot of the success of our programs.

Here is a link to our homeowner survey.

Celebrating ABWK Milestones

After 14 years of serving homeowner families, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity has just surpassed it's 1500th family served through A Brush with Kindness. We also served 158 families in 2012 which is the most families we have served in a single year.

Our projects range in cost from $100 - $15,000 and include both interior and exterior work. We serve any eligible family in need but most who receive our services are seniors, single parents and those with a disability.

This past year we also focused on disaster recovery efforts from a local tornado. We also began a veterans initiative, serving 23 veterans. This coming year, we will increase the depth of our service to those needing health and safety work. Therefore, we will be installing more roofs, ramps and completing major accessibility projects.

We are using a variety of strategies to raise resources for these projects such as: sponsorships, grants, sweat equity/DIY, special events and utilizing more GIK.

We have been so blessed by the outstanding support of our community. They have made it possible to serve 1500 families and preserve their homes for many years to come.

Measuring Success

There are a variety of ways we measure success in A Brush with Kindness.  Obviously, number of families served is the most apparent and shows the big picture impact your program is having in your community.  Also, if you are targeting certain neighborhoods, where your projects are clustered will play a role in factoring impact.

The following areas are also measured and play a role in program evaluation:
• Number of applicants and % of qualified applicants served
• Specific populations served
• Partners and collaborators
• Number of volunteers
• Number of volunteer groups
• Size of projects
• Neighborhoods served
• Number of sponsoring groups
• Funding amounts and sources
• Number of media events and special projects

However, the most important evaluation comes in our ability to help each family restore their home and give them hope to live a safe and healthy home.  Whether it is a senior striving to age in place, or a single parent juggling overwhelming responsibilities as she struggles to give her kids the security of a decent home, or even a person with disabilities trying to adapt their home to keep their independence, A Brush with Kindness is ultimately evaluated by its ability to help families be successful homeowners.  abwk habitat for humanity
