CONNECTING PEOPLE

PRESERVING SAFE, STABLE HOMES

Welcome - This blog was created to discuss the common questions and topics concerning the start-up and ongoing operations of A Brush with Kindness and Aging in Place

Marketing Basics

A Brush with Kindness is a family centered ministry of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. We provide a variety of home renovation services to families who are struggling with home maintenance issues. However, the renovation solutions we provide are secondary to understanding and partnering with the families we serve. Homeowners who live on site where volunteers and the community can connect with family situations is an important factor that sets us apart from our homebuilding services.

Communicating the stories of how A Brush with Kindness improves lives and transforms neighborhoods has been central to the success and growth of our program. A Brush with Kindness is an easy sell in our community that has such a great need for home preservation services. Our formula for success includes: a program name and logo that is loved by the community, creating dramatic visual changes to homes in our community, providing opportunities for volunteers to experience how their help can have a powerful impact on the families they serve.

Here are some of ABWK's messages: Many families in our community are struggling to keep their homes, many of these families are struggling with home maintenance issues, many struggling families live in your neighborhood, Habitat has a variety of solutions for families struggling to live in a safe, decent home, Habitat helps to stabilize families and neighborhoods, you can make an impact in the lives of families struggling to keep their home, connecting people and restoring homes - A Brush with Kindness, could you use a brush with kindness?

We use a variety of mediums to get our messages out to the public: from press releases to neighborhood newsletters, yard signs to t-shirts, agency magnets to door hangers, bulletin inserts to brochures (See the Program Documents page). We also use compelling homeowner stories that make terrific news stories such as: seniors struggling to stay living independently in their homes, veterans struggling with illness and mobility issues, single parents juggling bills and responsibilities on one income, families looking for accessibility support to allow their child with disabilities more independence. These are just a handful of the many ways ABWK is reaching out to our community.

The A Brush with Kindness co-brand is strong and complements and strengthens our Habitat for Humanity brand. Therefore, we put all of our homeowner services under A Brush with Kindness: Exterior/interior renovation, energy efficiency/weatherization and major home renovations. This allows our community to identify all of Habitat's homeowner services under one name - A Brush with Kindness. ABWK is a homeowner centered program that serves the renovation needs of families. Again, it is the stories of transformed families, homes and neighborhoods that are resonating with our community and has helped A Brush with Kindness experience tremendous growth and success.

We cannot do great things in this world, we can only do little things with great love."
